Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer
According to the Private Security Industry Authority Act, passed out in the year 2001, all persons willing to work in a private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a certain licence.
Keeping this in view, Sentinel Academy’s Level 2 Award in Security Guarding has been formulated to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
The qualification comprises 3 units (compulsory):
- Unit 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry
- Unit 2 – Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry
- Unit 2 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry
Notably, our Door Supervisor course can empower the learner to thrive in the NVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in various departments of the private security industry such as CCTV Operations or Security Guarding.
Assessment:
Unit 1 - Principles of working in the private security industry
Knowledge assessment method:
- Externally set and marked multiple choice question (MCQ) examination made up of 72 questions (110 minutes) Pass mark = 70%.
Practical assessment method:
- Externally set, internally assessed activity based on the completion of an evidential statement Pass mark = 100%.
Unit 2 - Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry
Knowledge assessment method:
- Externally set and marked MCQ exam made up of 60 questions (90 minutes) Pass mark = 70%.
Practical assessment method:
- Externally set, internally assessed observation of searching with observation sheet And Externally set and internally assessed observation of using communications devices Pass mark = 100% The practical assessment for each learner must be visually recorded and is recommended to take approximately 15 minutes per learner.
Unit 3 - Application of conflict management in the private security industry
Knowledge assessment method:
- Externally set and marked multiple choice question (MCQ) examination made up of 20 questions (30 minutes) Pass mark = 70%.
Practical assessment method:
- Externally set, internally assessed of one practical scenario with observation sheet per learner Pass mark = 100% The practical assessment for each learner must be visually recorded and is recommended to take approximately 15 minutes per learner.
Minimum contact time:
Minimum contact time (MCT) for this course is 42 hours stipulated by the SIA. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 29 contact hours (4-days) if self-study is undertaken.
