Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer
The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 6 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 50 minutes contact time (0.5-days) if self-study is undertaken. Please refer to Highfield's qualification specification for further details on self-study.
The qualification comprises 3 units (compulsory):
- Unit 1 – Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry
- Unit 2 – Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
Notably, our Door Supervisor course can empower the learner to thrive in the NVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in various departments of the private security industry such as CCTV Operations or Security Guarding.

Unit 1 - Principles of working in the private security industry
Knowledge assessment method:
- Externally set and marked multiplechoice question (MCQ) examination made up of 10 questions (20 minutes) Pass mark = 70%
Practical assessment method:

Unit 2 - Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry
Knowledge assessment method:
- Externally set and marked multiplechoice question (MCQ) examination made up of 16 questions (25 minutes) Pass mark = 70%
